I was the student selected through the UW Communication Leadership Partner Program to serve as a consultant and producer for a series of events with KUOW and The Center for an Informed Public. The series aimed to help the public understand and stop the spread of misinformation. Duties included researching and developing event topics, writing copy for event webpage, research and pre-interview event guests and coordinating with the moderator to write scripts and develop visuals.

Big tech and the fight against misinformation

There is more information shared on social media than any other time in history, and the information is not always factual. What can big tech companies like Facebook and Twitter do to regulate misinformation without infringing on users’ right to free speech? Will the government regulate these companies, and what would that look like? How will this help or hurt the coming elections?
